The Challenge
An international consortium of energy stakeholders and development partners required a structured technology evaluation and co-investment programme to identify, assess, and pilot distributed energy solutions across East African markets. Over 40 technology proposals submitted with no consistent assessment framework, no defined investment criteria, and competing priorities across consortium members spanning three countries.
Our Approach
Designed and implemented a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessment framework adapted for distributed energy contexts.
Evaluated 40+ technology proposals across solar, biogas, and battery storage against standardised TRL criteria, commercial viability, and regulatory readiness.
Facilitated structured co-investment negotiations securing commitment from 3 private sector partners.
Established a Cross-Sector Energy Innovation Forum convening 35+ stakeholders through quarterly sessions, producing a Collaborative Innovation Protocol adopted as the consortium's decision-making standard.
Built an innovation pipeline platform using Power BI dashboards and SharePoint-based workflow automation, replacing manual tracking that had resulted in 30% of milestones being reported late — reducing reporting cycle time from 15 days to 3.
Provided investor readiness assessment and go-to-market planning for 6 distributed energy startups, with 4 securing Series A funding.
